Anna Lee Lipman
My work has often, but not always, been landscape inspired. I work in a variety of printmaking media including relief, intaglio, photo polymer and monotype. Underlying themes are mood, atmosphere and quality of light, which are currently reflected in this series of monotypes. Using transparent layers and textures, I like to abstract the landscape to its most basic forms, hoping to capture the expansiveness and rolling open quality of the Yampa Valley.
Currently, I like to layer highly saturated yet transparent blocks of color pushing the parameters of an orthodox palette and using color in its purest forms. The process begins with a general impression of the landscape and visual imagery that I want to communicate. Using a reductive technique of color layers, stencils, direct drawing and trace drawing, the composition evolves to its final form
