Colorado offers incredible beauty, but Steamboat and the Yampa Valley have been my main focus. Each painting gives me the opportunity to interpret the uniqueness of a moment in time. I embrace the challenge! I try to convey the delight and enjoyment of a scene that has caught my eye, have fun and share the inspiration.
A Plein Air workshop was my introduction to “Painting the Landscape”. Wow, what a challenge! Painting outdoors has given me such insight into nature’s beauty. Many of my works are finished in the studio, but with plein air studies I feel I can capture the essence and delight of my view. I continue to paint outdoors, it’s a wondrous experience where new skills and different techniques evolve.
I’ve been fortunate to study with Colorado Landscape Painters, Brenda Hendrix and Don Sahli. I’ve attended many workshops offered through the Steamboat Art Museum. The Art Student League of Denver and the Scottsdale School of Art have exposed me to many talented painters. Each experience adds to the other and I try to apply that knowledge in each painting.
